Corner of your heart.

Is it that bad to come in second?

I am not someone who thinks there is a lid for every pot. I don't think everyone has a soul mate, true love, or that they will end up with someone. Happily ever after endings aren't real. Very often people end up alone. People say all the time not to settle. But what if this person you are "settling for", is it. What if they are all you get. If they make you happy is that enough? If they make you their number one, does there have to be some cosmic true love connection?

How bad is being second? It might depend on who you ask. The person just picked for Vice President of the country might have very different views on this then the person who took silver in the Olympics or the back up keeper who spends his days on the bench, or the understudy who has to sit back a watch someone else become the star.

People often say second isn't so bad. "Hey, were still ranked second in the west!" or "I'd be happy to be the Vice President!" or "A silver Olympic medal that's great! You're second best in the world!" But can anyone name one person who came in second behind Michael Phelps in the Olympics?

Some seconds do finally at long last end up becoming number one.
Theodore Roosevelt and Harry S Truman started out as Vice President. Anjelina Jolie and Camilla Parker-Bowles got bumped up big time. Sutton Foster started out as an understudy in Thoroughly Modern Millie, but ended up winning the Tony.

But what about when it comes to matters of the heart? When it comes to being second in someones life, suddenly the table turns.
Magazines, friends, eharmony ads, etc. always say "Find a person who is willing to make you their number one! Their everything!" Well what if there isn't someone who wants to make you number one? Is being runner up really so bad in this case? Are you just settling?

Should you just take what you can get and run with it? Should you just learn to be OK with the fact you aren't the immediate go to person but second in line? Is something better then nothing? And what happens to the people who come in third?

Corner of Your Heart
Ingrid Michaelson

There's a corner of your heart for me.
There's a corner of your heart just for me.
I will pack my bags just to stay in the corner of your heart.
Just to stay in the corner of your heart.

There is room beneath your bed for me.
There is room beneath your bed just for me.
I will leave this town just to sleep underneath your bed.
Just to sleep underneath your bed.

There's one minute of your day.
There's one minute of your day.
I will leave this man just to occupy one minute of your day.
Just to occupy one minute of your day.

Just to sleep underneath your bed.

Just to stay in the corner of you heart.

Pommie!! I couldn't remember your blog address so yeah! By the way I don't think that anyone should ever feel second when it comes to the person they love, I don't think there is anything worse. Besides it is all about finding that person that loves you more than anyone (your lobster!) Love you pommie!
